Safe in the Arms of Jesus

1 John 5:18
“We know that whosoever is born of God sins not. He that is begotten of God keeps himself and the wicked one touches him not.”

“The Authorized Version suggests that the begotten of God does not sin because he keeps himself. The Revised Version suggests that he that is born of God does not sin because the Son of God keeps him. This word ‘keeps’ is very important. It is a great word. It means that He watches over him, takes care of him, keeps His eyes on him, observes him attentively.

This statement is repeated in John 17, the same writer. In His high priestly prayer, Jesus says, ‘keep through Your own name those whom you have given me. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave me, I have kept… I pray that You would not take them out of this world, but keep them from evil’ – the very thing John says in this verse.”
