1 John 5:4 - 5
“Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world – our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
“The commandments of God are not grievous. The way in which we show that we love God is that we keep His commands. Thus, if we love God, the commandments of necessity cannot be grievous. Our very love for Him makes us desire to keep them. Because ‘whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world.’ That is why the commandments are not heavy.
The world is anything that makes a Christian feel that the commandments of God are heavy, anything that stands between us and glorifying God only. We are in an atmosphere and in a world where there is a great fight going on. The world is on the outside, but, alas, it is also on the inside. The world is within me, as well as without, and I have to fight on both fronts. It is because we are fighting all that without and within that the commandments seem hard and heavy.
Those who are truly Christians are in the position of being able to say quite honestly that they do not want to sin. They do not want to, but they still do it. But they know that the world has already been conquered by the Lord Jesus Christ. They know that they, themselves, are in Christ. Therefore, there is a sense in which the Christian has overcome the world. Christ has overcome it. I am in Christ, therefore, I have overcome it.”
