1 John 5:9-12
“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. This is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son: he that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself. He that does not believe, God has made a liar, because he believes not the record that God gave of His Son. This is the record: that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that has the Son has life. He that does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
“How may I know that the Bible is the Word of God? There are two main ways. There is the Word itself – the testimony of the Holy Spirit, the Spiritus Externus. The Holy Spirit also gives the internal certitude – the Spiritus Internus. We must observe the order in which these come. The objective must come first. First I am to receive the witness of God. It is only after I have that that I can have the evidence and witness within myself. ‘Taste and see that the Lord is good’ (Ps 34:8). ‘If any man do God’s will, he shall know of the doctrine.’ (John 7:17). “
