H Ike - Friday Mid Morning
Friday Mid Morning: The overall cone of impact for H Ike directs landfall right into the tip of the Florida peninsula in the early morning of Wednesday. The cone shows it sweeping across the islands as a C4 and not being much less than that when it hits Florida. However, that’s still five days out and its track could change drastically in five days. Weather Underground posted an interesting model map yesterday evening:
This is explained as “forecast tracks for Ike from the latest run of the GFS model ensemble. The ensemble is generated by initializing the GFS model with 21 slightly different initial conditions, then plotting where Ike goes with each model run.” The GFS model is one of the primary six models used in forecasting storm tracks. So despite the averaged cone, there is a significant range of possibilities for this storm.
