Love in Action

1 John 3:16-18
“Hereby we perceive the love of God, because He laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brethren. Whoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need and does not show compassion on him, how can the love of God dwell in him? My little children, let us not only love in word and in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”

“The New Testament does not merely exhort us to do things. It does not merely tell us to obey the rules. Rather, it asks us a question: ‘are you sure that the love of God is in you?’ Or, as an exhortation, it says, ‘make sure that the love of God is in you.’ And the way to make sure whether it is in you or not is this: if it is in you, you will love the brethren.”
