Sin

1 John 1:6-10
“If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not do the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.”

“Walking in darkness, says John, is a kind of realm or atmosphere, and that is the point at which so many seem to go astray. They fail to realize that particular truth about sin. They persist in thinking in terms of particular sins and actions. But according to the Bible, that is a hopelessly inadequate view of sin. Sin, according to the Bible, is everywhere. It is a realm, a kingdom.

The difference here is not to acts of sin, but to the nature that produces the acts of sin. John is concerned here about the state which is both the cause and consequence of what we do, the sinful state, a continual source of influence with us.”
