TS Hanna - TUESDAY MORNING
This hurricane season is starting to get active. The complete storm track history for all 2008 storms so far can be viewed here. The first few storms, Arthur, Bertha, and Cristobal really didn’t cause much of a problem. The next two, Dolly and Edouard both struck Texas, but only as tropical storms. Fay was of the same category but was much more of a bother because of how much time it spent over land. Gustav I’m sure everyone has heard about. Hanna is of next concern for us, hence another tracking log.
As you can see from the map, it took a funny left turn straight to the south on Monday, at which point it crossed the hurricane threshold. From that change, one might expect it to continue south, but there are invisible powers at work known to the meteorological savvy that say it will change to the northwest and cut a path along the coast of Florida. Here are the current computer models.
I use Weather Underground because it provides more detail about all these storms and has cool visual depictions of different storm aspects. At this point it looks as though the most significant part of the storm will be affecting us in the daytime on Friday. The only issues we’re seeing now is the problems its causing with shipping to the Bahamas. BSF has facilities there that are bracing for the storm.
