H Ike is long gone. The rest of the tropics are quiet. Jacksonville has been under clear blue skies and hot hot days for the past week. I wanted to link to these pictures from Dr. Masters Wunderblog though. They're just jaw dropping. The greatest force of the storm hit Bolivar Penninsula near Galveston. They show the strength of a 14 feet storm surge and 110 mph winds. Scores of houses were just obliterated. Like they never existed. It's almost unbelievable.

It makes you wonder what the earth would have looked like after the flood. The devastation is just amazing.
